"Once You Develop A Farm, It Will Never Be A Farm Again"
It's Time to Support Small Farmers
The Government has focused subsidies and aid on large and corporate farms for far too long. Real farmers know how to take care of their farms, and yet we favor those who own all of the land and do none of the work.
When I'm elected, we'll put a bigger focus on first-generation farmers with subsidies into things that will actually help them. Maintenance grants, Ag scholarships, fertile land protection, and so much more that will help our farmers, and support cheaper food costs.
We will Protect our Rural Land.
Our State and Local government has been taken over by a group of people who would see the whole of our rural area developed into expensive, cheaply-made, hastily-built housing: Developers. They don't care about rural needs, only their profits.
If we want farms to succeed, there has to be land available to cultivate, and building a 600 home development on farmland doesn't help.
Getting Back To Family Farms
1. Tax Breaks for our small, Tennessee farmers
2. Expanded Farm Subsidies
We should be giving tax breaks to those who work and need it, not mega corporations or massive, national farming corporations.
Programs like seed and fertilizer assistance and equipment maintenance subsidies would be the first leg up to help our farmers compete.
3. Block Foreign Ag Development
Marsha Blackburn's disastrous kowtowing to Chinese and other foreign ag. interests have destroyed our farmers' chances at independence and competition. We cannot allow foreign companies to take advantage of our state and destroy our domestic farming.
Break Free Of Government Coercion
1. Give our farmers the freedom to live.
When the government denies farm assistance, it stifles our farmers and makes every new season one battle for survival after another. That's not freedom from "big government" it's letting our farmers drown while saying offering a life vest would be "going to far". If our farmers cannot afford to provide for their families, or are backed into smaller and smaller returns year on year, we risk losing our agriculture altogether.
2. Expand Ag Development
New and excited ag practices are being developed every year. When we support farmers who try these new practices, like regenerative farming, we create a whole new class of farmer - those who are self sufficient - and bring ourselves back into competition with places like China and Europe.
3. Legalize Hemp Farming and Marijuana
Any farmer who has grown hemp will tell you that it is one of the most productive crops on the market. More than just the flower, hemp can produce twine, paper, oils, and so much more. Legalizing hemp opens a whole new lucrative market for Tennessee's farmers. (and brings in new business and industry!)
